The 2024 CAN Festival, The CAN Opener

Join us for the ‘CAN Opener’, opening night of the 2024 CAN Festival, taking place June 7th at 7 pm in The CAN Offsite Gallery (across from Taste) & The First Patron Artist in Residence Studio at City Center, the Phort. The Newport News Street Museum Pop-Up Murals by the CANtemporaries Studio Artists and Workshop Participants & ‘World of Shapes’ artist, Dathan Kane, will be on view on select windows throughout City Center.  Visit the link in our bio to RSVP. 

The CAN Opener includes ‘Conversations in Art: On Building Worlds’ an artist talk featuring ‘World of Shapes’ exhibiting artist Dathan Kane and collaborator, CAN Foundation First Patron Artist in Residence,Tremaine Etheridge. The conversation will be moderated by Asa Jackson. ‘On Building Worlds’ will explore the artist’s process, the exhibition, and the tour.

While at the CAN Opener visitors are invited to stop by the CAN Foundation Artist in Residence Studio at City Center to immerse themselves in ‘The Reference’, an installation by CAN Artist in Residence, Tremaine Etheridge, and his Phond team. @tremaineetheridge @wethereference 

‘The Reference’ is a multimedia experience & installation showcasing the contribution of black creativity and expression in celebration of African American Music Appreciation  month.
